Pharmacy Technician training has become more and more of a demand with no signs of stopping. Just being a pharmacy technician doesn’t necessarily qualify you for a job; you will need the best training program possible, which will also open up more doors for you in the future.
There are many ways to get your pharmacy technician certification; online courses and in pharmacy technician schools. Both of these are great options and will open a great many doors as you start down your career path.
Online Pharmacy Technician Training:
When training online as a pharmacy technician you will have a great amount of freedom in what you are doing; you will also need a great deal of discipline so you don’t get side tracked. And as long as you finish the course inside the allotted time limit, you will do just fine.
One of the few concerns with an online program is the very big lack of an internship; this is something that will give you a great deal of hands on experience. This is something that a lot of the best pharmacy technician training schools will have already in place.
Just because the course is online doesn’t mean that you will be alone, there will be instructors that you can contact, both by phone and online that will gladly give you a helping hand.
Online training programs are great for people who are already working; there are no classes you have to get to, so no time you have to take off of work to complete the program.
With the lack of a classroom and teachers, the cost of any online program will be a small fraction of what it would cost for a traditional school.
Pharmacy Technician Training Schools:
The main benefit of going to an actual physical pharmacy school is for the simple fact of the internship program that most training schools will offer.
These programs are typically 12 months are less; this is a lot less time than most other great career options with the same pay grade.
One of the bad thing about these schools is the price; this of course varies from school to school, as some will have more courses to take than others. But a typical program needs about 36 credits; some courses give you more, others less; again this depends on the school. However, unlike online courses, even though they are cheaper, do not allow you to get financial aid.

- Poison Emergencies
- Calculations and Measurements
- Medical Terminology
- Anatomy
All of these topics are common, no matter where you take your program. This should give you a heads up warning of what you will be taking.
There are other ways to get your training, however, they are far more complicated and take a bit longer than the traditional way. So for now, just stick with the online and physical schools to get your pharmacy technician training and you will do just fine.
