Certified Pharmacy Technician – Learn Why To Certify
Becoming a certified pharmacy technician is something that every person in a pharmacy technician related job field should consider doing. You will get better pay, more security in your job, more job opportunities.
The first step in any career goal is to get the right training at a good school. Getting your Pharmacy Technician Certification is no different. However, choosing an offline or online school that is going to meet your needs is a big portion of becoming a successful pharmacy tech, without it, you might as well just keep doing what you are doing and forget becoming one in the first place.
If you live in a main city in your state there is most likely a community college in your area that will have a suitable pharmacy technician course for you to take. If you don’t, then your other options are to either take the course online, or move to a larger population hub.
Certified Pharmacy Technician – Learn The Different Ways To Get Your Pharmacy Technician Certification
As fun as it may seem to be able to sit at your kitchen table, in your PJs and take a course to get a great paying job, there are downfalls of course. The main downfall is; no internship program. This can not be stressed enough; when becoming a pharmacy technician, especially certified, you need to have some on hand experience that only an internship can provide. However, if a distance education is the only option, then contact a local pharmacist and see if you can complete an internship there; yes, you will be working for free, but the end result will be more than worth it.
Taking the course, and doing a quality internship is only half the battle. Anyone can take the course, do the internship and call themselves a pharmacy tech. Honestly, you don’t even need those things to call yourself a pharmacy technician, but you won’t be certified, nor will you even get paid the same as a certified pharmacy technician. Your main obstacle in becoming a pharmacy technician who is certified is your pharmacy technician test.
The best thing you can do is continue to study all your pharmacy technician materials you took in the course while you do your internship. This way, when it comes time to take the test, you will still have all the knowledge fresh in your brain.
Just a reminder, without this test, you can not be a certified pharmacy tech. This is the KEY to starting your career off right.
After the course, internship, and exam are all taken career care of, and passed with flying colours, now it is time for what you have been waiting for; the career.
Even though this is the last thing people do when starting out it should honestly be an ongoing process from start to finish.
If you went to an offline school, there is a huge chance that you had to do a career investigation before you even got accepted. Even if you didn’t have to, this is something you should do anyways. In the process you will gather information on the career itself as well as possible job locations in the future.
While you are taking the course, you need to be investigating where you want to work when this is done. Sure, you might get hired at the same place where you took your internship, but if you don’t, you need a backup; or many.
Starting out, it is most likely going to be a retail pharmacy location that you will start your tech career at; if you are lucky, you might land a hospital pharmacy technician position, just don’t hold your breath.
But, there are still many options for future consideration; retail, hospital, nuclear. There are tons of possible places to find work in this field, hence why it is one of the fastest growing career opportunities around.
Yes, becoming a certified pharmacy technician can be hard work, but the end result is a rewarding and a well-paying career path.
